Sessions were well received with people seeking answers to the information available on the new HLRV (Historical Land Records Viewer) hosted by the NSW Land Registry Services.

Have now been asked to present the talks again early in 2020.

NSW State Conference of Family History Societies at Knox Grammar School

Gave a masterclass titled:
 Add  DimensioN  to your
Family Research and Storytelling
with map imagery.


This talk covered the information available in the NSW Spatial Services Portal and covered:
  • Geographical Names Board
  • Imperial to Metric Conversion
  • The Map Store
  • NSW Globe
  • SIX Maps

Class was fully booked out and many questions answered, mostly for people who had not used the portal previously.

Land Focus Day at NSW State Archives

One of three speakers talking about land records in NSW. Day started with Terry Kass speaking about the history of Land Records in New South Wales. This was followed by Emily Hanna from State Records and Archives detailing the land records held at Kingswood. I then spoke about Primary Applications and Conditional Purchases. A well attended day organised by the Society of Australian Genealogists.

Australian Military vehicle Collectors

Invited by a good friend, Max Mann to present at the Australian Military Vehicle Collectors Club at Ashfield RSL. Spoke about the vehicles used by the Australians in the Dunsterforce in Persia during 1918 as part of an effort to prevent Turkish takeover of the oil fields at Baku.

Family History Month in Goulburn

As part of Family History Month activities this year in Goulburn I have been asked to give my presentation:

Mapping Your Ancestors


which gives an insight as to why you would SHOW - Don't Tell!!!

The presentation will talk about maps in general, where to source maps, creating your own map and how you can use Google Maps to create your own map to share with your family.

The presentation will be on Wednesday 7th August at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library in Bourke Street, Goulburn. Contact the Local Studies Officer for more information.

Botany Bay FHS Volunteers Day

Following the recent Heritage Day at Tradies, I have been requested to repeat the presentation that I gave on that day as most of the Society volunteers were manning tables at the Heritage Fair.

The presentation went very well and the handouts, which contained clickable links, were emailed to all participants.

Port Macquarie and Districts Family History Society

Another opportunity to speak to family historians at Port Macquarie on Saturday 13 April 2019.

The topic will be Introduction to Land Records and Parish Maps.

We will be travelling to Port Macquarie via Armidale to visit the Regional Archives to undertake some research. On the way down to Port will stop off at Riverglade and Green Vale, both properties owned by my ancestors.

Presenting at Richmond Villa for the Society of Australian Genealogists on Saturday 6 April at 1.30pm. The topic is Mapping Your Ancestors where will talk about maps in general, where to source maps and then looking at an alternative means of telling your family story through Google Maps.
